Port Blair, 29 Jan 2012: Shri Mohammed H. Jadwet is a member of the Jadwet family, one of the oldest business houses in the islands. He joined his family business after completing Graduation in 1985 and worked to strengthen the core business of the Group and also helped in diversifying and expanding into new areas of tourism, shipping and recently launched a pioneering project of a catamaran day ferry operating between Port Blair and Havelock, which is a major milestone in the tourism and shipping development in the Islands.

Shri Jadwet was drafted into the executive committee of the Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industry and subsequently became its youngest President in 1997, a position which he successfully held for a decade. During his tenure as President he worked closely with Federation of Indian Council for Commerce and Industries and the Administration. He organized the first ever National Seminar on Tourism and Food Processing in Port Blair. He led a delegation of the Chamber of a “Look South” Conference organized by FICCI at Cochin and at Hyderabad. History was created when he led a 117 member delegation by a chartered flight directly from Port Blair to Phuket and Bangkok where a landmark co-operation agreement was signed with the Phuket Chamber of Commerce and India Thai Chamber of Commerce. This became a prelude to the twin city agreement signed between the Andaman Administration and Phuket. A return delegation led by the Governor of Phuket. Subsequent to Tsunami disaster, he worked closely with the Administration and provided valuable inputs to formulate a relief and rehabilitation package for the revival of economy. He worked tirelessly for sanctioning of relief package of waiver of interest for 3 years on business loans which benefited 1000s of small and medium business units.

Shri Jadwet is a philanthropist and a staunch believer in corporate social responsibility. He has been associated with the Rotary, which is one of the largest Non-Governmental organizations in the field of the social service in the world. He served as President of Rotary Club of Port Blair in 1992. As Chairman of Rotary International Solidarity Fund Committee (Tsunami Fund), he successfully over saw the project of construction of 2 Nos. hostels at JNRM Complex at Port Blair. As member of the Rotary, he contributed significantly in the activities of the Club in the area of health, education, youth and community services. He has also been founding member and associated with organizations like Indian Red Cross, Ummat Public School, Saathi, an NGO dedicated to de-addiction.

A keen sportsman, Shri Jadwet has been associated closely in the development of the sports in A&N Islands as Member of State Sports Council and President of A&N Cricket Association.
In recognition of his valuable service to elevate trade and commerce in these Islands and overall contribution in the field of social work and sports, Shri Mohamed Hashim Jadwet is awarded the Lt. Governor’s Commendation Certificate.
